Okay, so here’s the thing, when I was seventeen I moved to Vancouver and it was the big bad scary city… I was just a small town Northern Canadian girl from the Yukon about to attend a university with a student body bigger than the population of my home town, probably my whole dang territory, ha ha. Needless to say I was pretty freaked out, excited, but freaked out.
One of the first things that I had to do was find a job to support the hella expensive big city living. Even from the get go I was living off campus, on 33rd and Victoria with my big sis, so everyday I woke up and applied to stores and restaurants galore along Commercial drive, but no body wanted to hire a little dreadlocked hooligan from the great white North… no one except the queen of jeans herself (and fishnets and corsets). My first job in Vancouver was at the Jean Queen on Commercial Drive. It was also my first retail position, ever. The owner, Corina took me under her wing and became like a second mother to me. Thanks to that magical store and the lovely girls who I worked with there Vancouver quickly became a lot less big and a lot less scary to little seventeen year old me.
Now,six years later, with a university degree under my belt, and some travel time too, I can honestly say that store and the people in it really shaped who I am today, and of course, what’s in my closet. 🙂
Which is why I was so honoured and thrilled to be a part of the grand opening of the new Jean Queen on Saturday, CONGRATULATIONS JQ CLOTHING! You are my new favourite store!!!
Corina asked me about two weeks ago if I would come to fiddle at the opening party, of course I had to say yes, but I was nervous as hell! My sweet Natalie has been locked up in her case collecting dust for months, probably since I returned to Canada from Australia in May… but I thought I would seize the opportunity for a new beginning of my own. Since the day Corina asked me, I’ve been practicing again, learning a whole bunch of new traditional canadian fiddle tunes, and it feels good, so I won’t stop now!
As for the party, it was wonderful, a neighbourhood soiree with musicians and burlesque dancers and beautiful people who radiated rainbows and positive vibes. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to get back into the swing of things.
JQ clothing is a store with funk, class, and all around RAD clothing for all sizes and body types! You’ll walk in feeling like a regular working class citizen and leave feeling like a QUEEN, the fairest in the land, a rainbow fairy princess, or a sexy down-to-business professional, or just one hot-ass grrrrl who knows just what to wear.
But don’t worry, the staff at JQ will help you out and tell you straight up if that dress suits you or if they have something even better in the back, with your name on it 😉
Just go see for yourself, JQ Clothing is all kinds of epic!
